Senior Software Engineer BESS (Freelance)

The Assignment

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing high-performance software that powers Alfen’s Energy Storage Systems (ESS). You will contribute to the design, development, and optimisation of software architecture that is essential to the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of our solutions.

Responsibilities

You will work within a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, system architects, and hardware specialists to deliver technically complex solutions. The primary focus is on embedded software development and control logic for advanced energy storage systems.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and developing scalable software for ESS, from architecture to implementation

• Providing technical leadership, conducting code reviews, and supporting junior engineers

• Troubleshooting complex software issues and optimising performance

• Integrating software with hardware and electrical components within the R&D department

• Supporting commissioning, testing, and validation of new software releases

• Contributing to process improvements and development tooling

Profile

You are an independent professional with a strong technical background and hands-on mindset. You are analytical, communicative, and capable of making sound technical decisions at a system level.

Required qualifications:

• A completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in embedded systems or industrial automation

• Proficiency in C, C++, Python, and Linux environments

• Experience with software architecture and design patterns

• Affinity with energy storage or energy-related applications is an advantage

• Strong communication skills and a proactive, responsible work attitude

• A valid Chamber of Commerce (KvK) registration and VAT number
